Volunteers Are a Special Asset to Fiddler Grove
Have you ever thought about all of the great things Wilson County has to offer to its residents? One of the hidden gems in Wilson County is Fiddlers Grove Historic Village tucked away in a small portion of the James E. Ward Ag Center, commonly referred to as the “Fairgrounds”. The Grove hosts over 55 buildings, some of which are over 200 years old and contain artifacts that have been donated so Wilson County’s rich history can be preserved and shared for generations to come.
Over the past few years, Fiddlers Grove’s school programs have been developed to meet the educational standards of STEM, now STEAM, used by most schools. Twelve learning stations present various aspects of life as it was in the past and and how it has progressed to the present. This includes such things as animal science, technology, art, and engineering’s growth in communication, transportation, and electrification, and all the ways we use mathematics in our daily life. In 2018, over 2,700 children attended programs in the Grove. Folk/traditional artisans demonstrate their arts, crafts, and skills as they relate to each of the areas in the STEAM curriculum.
Because of the growing interest in these programs, Fiddlers Grove needs more volunteers to help with all areas of operations. You can donate as little as one hour per month, or as much time as you can because it is greatly appreciated! Anyone who would like to help with school programs, daily operations, or events please call the Fiddlers Grove office at 615-547-6111 and find out how you can help.
